My choice of Outside reading

The novel I have chose for my outside reading is “The Mist” by Stephen King. I chose this book because I enjoy reading Stephen King books, and have read his whole “Dark Tower Series” and though every book was amazingly gripping and scary. I enjoy books that I can’t pick up, read the first page, than know the ending of the book, Stephen King’s novels are clear of that, he keeps you guessing what happens next every second of the books, and is grippingly brutal in descriptions that make me want to read more. I also just enjoy a good horror book and not many people can write that genre anything like Stephen King.
This story was first put in a book full of Stephen King’s “Short Stories” (it is thicker than the bible) the book was titled “Skeleton Crew” and depending how well I like this one, I might look for more of the short stories. I will also have to think asbout how this book compares to the “Dark Tower Series” because the only book out of the series by Stephen king I have read is “Salems Lot” and it was not nearly as good as the books from the series. I will probably find another story from Stephen king for my next book.
From reading the back of the book before I bought it, I have found that this book is about a small village of people over ran by mysterious storms, destroying much of a village, Someone takes his son out to go grocery shopping the next day early in the morning, and can barely get out of the house without seeing a large fog that is completely opaque

Last person Alive

If I was the last person in a post apocalyptic world I would be extremely lonely, although I think I would be better off.  As the last person on earth I would not have to work for my keep or do anything but relax and gather food from abandoned groceries stores and possibly, farm some agriculture to gain my own sure fire supply of food. It would be lonely, but I would find animals who would be my “friends” although I would miss all my friends, I would get by.  Though in some cases, animals would not be living and buildings may not remain and I would have to free lance farm and that could be a little bit challenging to take up on my own with no direction from anyone, and making sure food is clean and not radioactive or tinted in some way would be difficult.  If electronics survived, I would be much more easily entertained, but would be able to find things to do on my own either way. In Minnesota if buildings didn’t survive I would make my own hut out of wood and other materials I could find across a post apocalyptic Minnesota. In general I would take living in a post apocalyptic world over the normal world in most circumstances.

Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Many times playing hockey, I feel like I am in Odysseus’ position between a rock and a hard place. As a goalie, I am put up against more pressure than many other athletes. The fate of an entire game can be placed upon the shoulders of a goalie, just like the fate of Odysseus’ ship, crew, and life is placed upon his shoulders as he chose which obstacle he wanted to face. We both have very little time to make important choices that could make or break all of our hard work, and the hard work of everyone around us who is more often than not, close to us emotionally. This makes most people buckle under pressure, and sometimes I do. I often become scared of the potential consequences if one of my split second decisions is off, just like Odysseus, though my consequences for messing up are not near as dire, extreme, or dangerous as his. Sometimes, I may have more choices than Odysseus had when he was sailing on his quest, but sometimes, on a loose puck I need to decide if I will play the puck or if I will just get ready and play the puck either as my defense gets it or the forward shoots. It can bring fourth tough choices being between a rock and hard place, as Odysseus, or as a hockey goalie, but more often than not people think choices through and make the better decision.

My Thoughts on What Makes a Hero

I don't think I worship "heroes" but I do look up to people because of heroic deeds they have done for me, you, or anyone in the world, though "Hero" can be a disputed word when it comes to choosing which person would be a better "hero" or who was a better "hero" such as times as the election or when people talk about musicians or sports players. I think a hero is someone who has helped someone out in a time of need. A hero is someone worth looking up too who you beleive is a good person. Heroes are people with something rare about them that makes them good, and that is many people. I think something more prominent than heroes is heroic moments, and heroic moments to come to everybody at some point. I still think when people have heroic moments they should be rewarded as a way to encourage everyone to try to help people out in time of need and be a hero for just a little bit. So on the whole I don't beleive in permanent or everyday heroes.

Brothers of the Head

Brothers of the Head is based on the true story of conjoined twins Tom and Barry Howe. They were born in the southern half of the United Kingdom and were sold to the circus by their father when they were just kids. The circus leader decided to give them to a manager (Howard Attfield) who would manage there talents into whatever way possible. Howard decided to make them into a band. Tom already had some musical skill and Barry was not opposed to the idea. The movie was great because it involved creative camera effects, followed an interesting idea, and was very well made. It was also independently made so it must have been much more time consuming and sincere. Brothers of the Head worried people in previews when people though it would not capture the English landscape and culture very well or use misconceptions of the British culture on account of it was made in the southern panhandle of Texas. The movie proved critics wrong and nailed it right on the head, and people couldn’t find misconceptions or problems in the films direction, storyline, or actors. The movie received the top film award at the Edinburg film festival. Brothers of the Head were an amazing movie all together. I couldn’t call any movie my favorite but this one is for sure up there.

Everything I Had To Know I Learned From Hockey

Everything I had to know I learned from hockey. Hockey has been played in Minnesota for a long long time and more people have started playing. Hockey teaches people to be team players because you play for a team and not for yourself. It teaches people to take punches, it teaches them to not retaliate or a penalty will be paid, teaches you to work hard becasue if you don't skate hard in practices the coach gets mad. If you dont work hard in life then you won't get anywhere, it is the same way. Lastly, a value taught from hockey is the importance of friends, because I have made so many good friends from hockey, I think it is an important aspect of life in this world.

The Aquabats!

The aquabats are my favorite band in the world. They are a band of crime fighting superheroes who sing about there adventures saving the world. I have listened to them since fifth grade and somehow after all these years they are still making amazing c.d.s the latest album is scheduled to come out before there holiday tour and will be in a box set with the tribute album titled "The Best Kids in the World" dedicated to fans. The aquabats music to me has been amazing throughout the years, member switches, and genres switches. I have seen them in concert once and it was amazing. It was in las vegas with the band rancid and it was the best concert of my life. They opened with my favorite song and right when they came out it sent chills through my body. Also as an icing on the cake, the aquabats are now making a T.V. show! It's called "The Aquabat's Super Show" and is half animated and half live action much like the 1990's T.V. show "The Mario Super Show". The aquabats current line up is...

The M.C. Bat Commander (Lead Vocals)

Jimmy the Robot (Keyboard/sampling/saxophone)

Eagle Bones Falconhawk ( guitar)

Ricky Fitness (Drums)

Crash Mclarson (Bass)

The only two original members are Crash Mclarson and the M.C. Bat Commander

My Drivers License

I am to turn sixteen years old on October second. I will then be of legal age to drive my own car with a license. I am very excited to get my drivers test taken to get my license. I procrastinated signing up for a test so I couldn't get a test scheduled until the 15th but I am still very excited. When I get my license I will get to take turns taking the car to pick up friends or go to friends houses to hang out. As of now the schedule for driving is tight already because I have two driving siblings. One is twenty years old and one is seventeen years old and they already have trouble coming up with a system of sharing driving. So I think I will be using my moped instead of the car to get places with. I will probably get made fun of a lot, but motor scooters are a good way to conserve fuel and save space. My family recently acquired two mopeds from my grandparents. I found out a couple weeks after we got them that you need a license to ride it. I found out the hard way and almost had to pay a ticket and get my moped impounded but was let off with a warning(thank goodness). I have been patiently waiting to get my license and as it comes closer to the time I am only getting more excited.

A Journey I Intend to Take

If I could take a journey anywhere, it would be to the ocean aroud jamaica. I would take a boat out with all of my friends one summer day and just chill for a couple days while boating. We would ride motorboats and sailboats, we would waterski, and wakeboard and most of all just chill with my buds. I have been to jamaica once already and it is very Ideal for what I'm looking for. It was the some of the best times of my life. I can't wait to go back if I ever get the chance.

blog expectations

My name is Brennan this is my super cool blog, which Iwill personalize and make my own (but not post pics of myself or use my last name on.) Iwill always use appropriate language on my school blog and follow the conventions of the english language. The expectation for this assignment is that I post on my blog oncea week for the remainder of the school year. I am expected to comment on text that I am viewing in the world arouind me. These might include but are not limited to: books, magazines, movies, internet articles, television shows, trips to museums, etc.
Each post should be at least 200 wrods. Each weekly post is due by 8am on that Wednesday. Thereforew, Q1 due dates are: 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, and 10/29. That makes for a total of 7 posts for the first quartter. I understand that blogs are worth 100 points per quarter and are graded holisticaly (Thatmeans there will be no specific grading rubric). I also understand that blogging is a significant component of my quarter grade. By the way, what I have just typed is only 196 words! Now it is 200!
